Bakin' Machine

Gee - whiz! Can't believe it's been a month since my last post! That's what happens when you're so busy you can't come up for air!!! (I'm not complaining, mind you..) I will just have to get better at posting. I still have TONS of cookie pics to post - but find it's been REALLY easy to send from my phone/camera directly to my Facebook page. (I'll keep at it until I've got it all figured out and posting daily on this blog....meahwhile, I'll keep bakin'...bakin'...BAKIN'!!!)

Bake, Bake, Bake!

Oh, my...where did September go??? Guess I was busy baking and never looked up. I've been blessed to have been given several opportunities to bake for friends, Brady's classmates, events and even a great new restaurant in town!
If I can figure out how to post pics from my phone (and now being used as my camera)...then I can 'show-n-tell' some of my treats!

Busy days

The day is growing, fast approaching nightfall..and I've been a busy bee at work. I'm also getting busier with cookie orders coming in (Yipee!)as the word gets out that I bake & decorate. I absolutely LOVE the decorating of cookies...and will continue to strive to make a better cookie!
I had the joy of delivering cookies to both schools in my tiny, rural Kansas town. It was the first day of school yesterday - and what fun, to bring cookies to the facutly & staff along with a note of well wishing for a FANTASTIC year! Here are some pics...

Saying Good-bye

Good-bye's are never easy...at least for me. I'm not sure why it's that way...but it is. I recently had to come to terms with the death of fellow employee at my work place. At the respect of her family - I'll not identify her - other than an angel sent from heaven for a very short time. Although I did not know her well - I do know that she was a nurse and a caring one, too. She always knew she wanted to save lives...and had the biggest opportunity to do just that. In her death she saved countless lives through organ donation. For her there is no more pain...for us left here on earth a little while longer, there is. I know it's hard not to ask 'why'...I've found myself in times of prayer, confessing that I do wonder why...at 39 years old...she left us. I'm reminded, lovingly by the Holy Spirit, that God has a Master Plan...and He will bring about good. My sweet husband - reminded me of that very scripture (Romans 8:28) - that good has come about by her passing - with organ donation. I do know every time I think of her I will give thanks to my God...for allowing me to know her for the short time that I did...she made a big impact.

Bakin' All Night Long!

Upon my return from TX and high school reunion...it was time to 'git-a-bakin!' My work place (hospital) was holding a Bake Sale to raise funds for a swing for our long term care residents. Since I'd spent 4 days in East TX - and returned to Kansas 1 day before the big sale...I had lots'a baking yet to do!
Well, about 8pm I finally got started..and baked...and baked...and baked...(you get the picture). I think about 1:30am I was taking out the last batch of Toffee Chip Snickerdoodles and beginning to frost the first batch of almond sugar cookies!!!! (a side note - my sweet hubby got up to see the clatter around 3:45 - and I was just about finished...)
Needless to say...here it is 3 days later...and I'm STILL exhausted! I'm entirely too old to be staying up!

Texas!

Just a quick post today...
Sweet hubby flew me from Denver to Austin, TX last weekend for my 3oth (sh) high school reunion...Go, Red Raiders! (RELee - Tyler). He had us in a hotel for Thursday night & I flew out early Friday morning...I was in Tx before noon! My 18yr old - newly graduated - daughter picked me up from airport and whisked me away to east TX (Tyler). We met my dear, dear high school friend, "A", somewhere on I35 - where I began the jump back & forth from daughter's car to friend's car...all the way north. L-O-N-G story short - we three girls (daughter, A, and me) spent the night in hotel Friday night. A few 'old' good friends met up at a restaurant in downtown Tyler for great laughs. Daughter & I went shopping (yea, a MALL) on Saturday; then 'A' and I took a really long walk through a beautiful park/walking trail. Then it was time to get ready for the festivities of our reunion party!!
Reunion was great fun...visiting friends & seeing how many changes there were in 30 years! It was fun recognizing faces from the past!

monday, monday...

an afternoon post...because work is...before...and if work is before...then what's after? ok, i'm a little too tired to philosophize..not even sure i know how to spell it.
my sweet daughter will begin a new routine...this evening. it's called...bedtime! we've waited a little too long to get this as part of our regular routine..so, TONIGHT! don't get me wrong...we've always had a routine of putting her to bed ~ ya know...pj's (check)...teeth brushed (check)...story told (check)...discussion about the cosmos and endangered animals (check, check). the time factor is the one thing we failed to tend to...and so her daddy and i are worn smooth by the time she closes her eyes for slumber. that brings us to, you guessed it, TONIGHT!...the magic begins...promptly at 8:30pm. we're one month away from the beginning of SECOND GRADE..and the perfect time to develop the good habit! (the only hard part..."Mom, but it's still light outside!)

cookies for today

Want some?...just contact me...i bake for parties, birthdays, holidays, BFF day, any special occasion! just kickin' my hobby into serious gear...and you can help me out!

Lazy Sunday...

just another wonderful, summer Sunday. i'm enjoying the soft summer sounds while sitting on my deck in the warmth...sounds...like the whisper of the wind...our black lab, Solly, panting in the heat, birds chirping at each other in the trees nearby...and Gabby (schnauzer) smackin' on her dry dogfood!
my eyelids growing heavy from the sweet summer heat - not too cold..and not too hot. i just might go in and take a nap - or try one on for size in my hammock...the one my sweet hubby and daughter, Brady Grace hung for me on the deck! cookies were a hit at church!! thinkin' i might finish the batch i have (perhaps make more)...decorate & send forth in the community...see what type of interest it generates around these parts. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for in Your Infinite Wisdom...I'll know my next step. You've already gone before me ~ and have made a plan for me....that is what i cling to.
will post more baking pics soon...until then...i'll be right here bloggin' and bakin'!

Brady's Mushroom!

Day 2 as a blogger...

good~morning!
what a beautiful Kansas sky there was before me today...as a very dear friend, T, and i walked the streets of our tiny town. we've just started morning power walks...and i can't imagine trying to jump start my mornings without them, now. we usually end up seeing another dear friend, G, who is out on her power walk with her schnauzer. (i don't get to continue the walk with them...b/c i have to scurry off to the showers...get ready for work.) today i got to go with G, too!

our two dogs, schauzer (Gabby) and black lab (Solly) have started a morning routine, too. they wait by our front window when i leave for my walk...and are waiting (SO excitedly, i might add) for me at the front door upon my return. they then follow me into the bathroom and sleep on the rug while i shower. one of these (brave) mornings i just might try to take them with me on my walk!

today is Saturday....GLORIOUS SATURDAY! (one of my fav days of the week...next to Sunday). since i've started to get really serious about my baking (especially cookies)...i've got some baking to do today!

speaking of baking...brady and i had such a blast baking sugar cookies and creating cool icing colors to decorate them last night. brady made a whole batch of hearts...and even made a really cool 'swirly' cookie (rolling the dough out like a worm ~ then swirling into a circle). she ended her night (YIKES...almost 10:30pm) by creating a 3D mushroom, complete with a stand and little dots on top! she even colored the top with red food coloring, like fingerpainting. she's SUCH a creative girl...it's so fun to watch her create! (i will try my luck at posting a pic or two...)

...and so it begins...

hello to all out there in cyberland.
this is the beginning of my blogging life...i've no idea where it will take me...but i do know it's going to be a journey ~ a pretty wild ride!
here it is...already July 2010. where in the world did the time go?
it seems just yesterday my daughter, Brady Grace, was born. isn't that the cliche all people use when talking about their children growing up? (become a parent at 40 with six siblings above the newest little bundle of joy...and just see where it gets you!)
that's where our story begins ~ well, almost.
actually, it all began in an old opera house...a VERY long time ago. but that's another story that i will tell some other time...when there's more time.
right now i am sitting in the middle of my couch, in the middle of my house, in the middle of mid-America (a tiny town in Kansas) where we moved two years ago from Austin, TX. My sweet & wonderful husband, Michael, likes to refer to it as Urban Detox. We are very happy here...a wonderful little community where there's no need for locked bicycles outside the school & kids run free to & from the park.
Brady Grace, our beautiful little 8-year old daughter...like i said above...is that last of our blended family of seven. He had 4 before we met...I had 2...and together we had one...a girl...who 'broke the tie!' (Girls Rule!) Brady & I made sugar cookies tonight...and had a BLAST doing so. And with it...a hobby was born.
Long post...late night...going to bed.
Rest well.
